I don’t think it would shock my father to find that I am
probably not much better a driver today than when he taught me to drive: First
on a conversion van with “three on the tree,” then our huge woodsided station
wagon. It started when I was fifteen. At the time we lived in North Dakota and
the age for a learners permit was lowered so that the farm kids could drive the
family truck and work on the family farm.
